Step by Step Guide to Buying an Acorn Stairlift

Obtain a Free Quote

The first thing you’ll no doubt want to know is how much your stairlift is likely to cost you. There are many variables involved in pricing a stairlift, including the length of your stairs, whether you have a curve or bend in them, and whether it’s an indoor or outdoor model that is required. The best option, to give you a personalised approach, is to contact us for a free, no obligation quote.

Simply click the button on our website and enter your details. We’ll be in touch as soon as possible to give you an idea of how much you’re looking at, and what your options are. Any questions you have, just ask! We’re on hand to help you and we want to have a hand in you rediscovering and maintaining your independence at home.

Home Survey

There is no single home that is the same as any other and that means we need to do a quick and free survey to identify the right measurements and look at the different models which could be ideal for you.

The surveyor will attend your home at a pre-arranged time that is suitable for you. They will look at your stairs and check that they are amenable to a stairlift being installed in the first place. Don’t worry however, the overwhelming majority of stairs are suitable and its simply a case of finding the right Acorn model from there on in.

The surveyor will also take accurate measurements of your stairs, including the length and the width.

If you have any burning questions that haven’t been answered at this point, you can ask your surveyor and they’ll be happy to help you. We’re all on hand here to give you the outcome you need!

Choose The Right Acorn Stairlift For Your Needs

Your home survey will give you a lot of information as to which model is best for you, but we stock three of the best Acorn stairlifts around. The Acorn 130 Straight Stairlift is one of our best sellers and the ideal option if you have a regular stairway, e.g. straight up and down, and indoor.

However, if your stairs are a little more complicated, e.g. perhaps they curve or bend slightly to the left or right, or maybe the wind around completely, the Acorn 180 Curved Stairlift could be the model for your needs.

It may very well be that your stairlift needs aren’t indoors at all. You might have a set of steps outside that are a little steep or maybe a ramp that is difficult to navigate on your own. It could be your back garden steps or maybe the front steps, leading down to the pathway. Whatever it is, the Acorn Outdoor Stairlift is a good choice, and one of our leading outdoor stairlift options too.

Whilst there are certainly other brands to consider, Acorn are a very popular and high quality choice to think about.

Compare Acorn to Companion or Stannah Stairlifts

Of course, just because Acorn is one of the biggest names in the stairlift business, doesn’t mean it’s the only one you should think about. There are other stairlift companies who offer very high quality options and one of those might be better suited to your needs. We recommend you do your homework into several different companies in order to identify the best one for you. However, we hold Acorn in very high regard.

If you have a particularly narrow stairway, Companion as known to sell some of the most compact stairlift designs around. In that case, perhaps a Companion option is the better one for you, but you would need to compare this in terms of features.

On the other hand, Stannah Stairlifts are instantly recognisable by name. That often gives a huge amount of peace of mind prior to purchasing, and that’s something you need to think about for yourself too.

Certain stairlifts have different weight restrictions, so this is also something you need to look into prior to making your purchase.

Whilst we’re certainly not ignoring the fact that there are many other stairlift options out there, Acorn are a very high quality final choice. They are one of the world’s leadings companies who specialise in stairlifts only. This makes them experts in their field. They were also the first company to install DC batteries into their stairlifts, taking away the worry of what might happen in the event of a power outage. Obviously, this is something which has been emulated by many other companies since that time.

Check Trustpilot Reviews

For extra peace of mind, you should check out Trustpilot’s reviews and ratings. This will help you to understand and evaluate the experiences of other people who have purchased this type of stairlift. We’re aware that sales talk only goes so far – you need to understand what someone thinks based on their experience too.

If you look at Trustpilot, you’ll see that Acorn constantly receive high reviews. Their rating is 84%, with 12% rated as great.

Check Acorn Stairlift Prices

As before, you should contact us for a free quote to find out the definite amount you will expect to pay. After your home survey (free, of course) you’ll know the price and you won’t have any unexpected surprises coming your way.

However, we know you’ll want to know an average figure right now, so you can start to really think about whether Acorn is the company for you. On average (remember, no definite prices here) you can expect to pay a minimum of around £1650 for the Acorn 130 Straight Stairlift. If you need a curved stairlift, you will opt for the Acorn 180 Curved Stairlift which has a starting price of around £3700. Remember, curved stairlifts cost more because of the tricker installation involved.

The final choice is an outdoor stairlift, i.e. the Acorn Outdoor Stairlift. It’s not easy to give an average figure here but you should expect an outdoor stairlift in general to cost more than an indoor one, whether curved or straight. This is because outdoor stairlifts are manufactured to stand adverse weather conditions and other related outdoor life problems. However, a minimum price for an Acorn outdoor stairlift would be around £3000 upwards.

Installing Your Acorn Stairlift

Here comes the good news. Acorn are renewed for fast installation, usually within 24 hours of your purchase being made. Of course, do remember the anomalies happen and it depends upon stock levels etc, but overall your Acorn stairlift will be installed into your home as quickly as possible.

Straight stairlifts are easier to install and will therefore be a far quicker job. This can often be done in a few hours maximum. Don’t worry, there will be no damage to your decor or your carpet, and no structural changes are required. The rail for your Acorn stairlift, whether curved, straight, or outdoors, is fixed around 6” away from the wall itself, which mean it doesn’t drag or catch on the wall itself when it moves.

A curved stairlift takes a little longer to install, but again, Acorn are committed to quick installation so you can still expect your stairlift to be in situ within a few days. How long the installation itself takes depends on the stairs you have and how complicated they are. A single curve will take less time than a stairway which bends more than once. The same goes for outdoor stairlifts – they can take a little longer than straight stairlifts, but they’re not  going to take as long as a curved model on average.

Acorn Warranty

For you peace of mind, all Acorn stairlifts come with a 12 month warranty. If you want to protect your stairlift after that initial year, you can purchase additional cover, lasting for up to four years.

Extended warranty includes servicing of your stairlift on an annual basis, covers the cost of any repair required, and if you do need an engineer to come out and fix a problem, as an extended warranty holder you’re given priority.

All of this adds up to extra peace of mind that your stairlift, regardless of the type of Acorn stairlift you opt for, is going to last for many years to come, helping you to remain mobile and independent within your own home.

Acorn After Service

If you experience any problems with your Acorn stairlift during the warranty period, or I f you choose to take out the extended warranty, you simply call the helpline and explain the problem. The helpline is open 365 days a year and the number is freephone.

When an engineer or servicer attends your home, they will show you their identity card, putting you at ease. If your stairlift breaks down or suffers any problems, an gainer will come to your home and if you choose to purchase extended warranty after your initial warranty runs out, this will cover the cost of the callout itself, labours and any parts required. You don’t have to pay a penny more.

Put simply, Acorn’s range of stairlifts are not only high quality, but they back it all up with quality customer service and warranty too. All you need to do is decide whether Acorn makes the final cut for you.

We can answer any more questions that you may have, too.
